Petra National Trust is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 1989 as the first leading pioneer in cultural heritage conservation and preservation. When first established, PNT focused on the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra. Three decades later, PNT has become a regional center of excellence in cultural heritage protection and grew to offer heritage protection solutions and services across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

PNT’s President and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador HRH Princess Dana Firas oversees the implementation of PNT’s mission and the fulfillment of its vision.

ADVOCACY FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE
PNT works with government, civil society and international organizations to develop and promote policies and practices that prioritize the protection and preservation of heritage. PNT emphasizes the principles of responsible tourism and sustainable development in its approach and integrates heritage into the socioeconomic agenda, legislation and programs.

PRESERVATION
PNT partners with specialists in Jordan and internationally to design and implement urgent interventions to protect and preserve heritage when the safety of monuments and people is under threat.

EDUCATION OUTREACH & AWARENESS
PNT designs and implements an innovative, comprehensive, and structured cultural education program that engages children and youth with their heritage, promotes civic engagement values and builds a new generation of leaders who identify with their heritage and are committed to its protection.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (Women and Youth)
PNT works to integrate cultural heritage with better livelihoods and quality of life of members of the local community. PNT programs empower local communities, especially women and youth, to pursue growth and income-generating opportunities related to heritage, and to integrate the interests and knowledge base of different stakeholders into preservation efforts.

CLIMATE HERITAGE
PNT recognizes that climate change will present a pervasive and serious threats to communities and heritage in Jordan and the world. PNT promotes research, policy and mitigation measures to build the resilience of communities and to adapt to the challenges of climate change by utilizing indigenous knowledge, know-how and traditional social protection mechanisms.
