Petra National Trust promotes best practices in cultural and natural heritage preservation and management in Jordan, the region, and beyond.
Established in 1989, Petra National Trust is a Jordanian, non-governmental, non-profit organization. It is Jordan’s oldest national organization for cultural heritage preservation. Initially focused on preserving the values and significance of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra, today PNT’s work covers cultural, archeological and World Heritage sites in Jordan and the region.

The president of Petra National Trust and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Heritage, HRH Princess Dana Firas, oversees the implementation of PNT’s mission and vision.

Petra National Trust responds to the urgent need to protect, preserve, and conserve the archaeological and cultural heritage of Jordan and the region and plays a significant role in international advocacy for cultural heritage.

Petra National Trust, PNT, is Jordan’s national organization for the protection and preservation of cultural heritage.

PNT aims to instill in Jordanians a sense of identity and pride in their cultural and natural heritage, to inspire a commitment to preserving and protecting it, and to promote best practices in heritage management and policy development.

Mission
Petra National Trust strives to fulfill the urgent need to protect and preserve the archaeological, historical, natural and cultural heritage of Jordan. In partnership with national governmental and non-governmental bodies, local communities, and international institutions, PNT implements projects and programs to promote awareness of the values and significance of heritage and to safeguard and maintain heritage significance and integrity for Jordan and the world. PNT works to integrate heritage in the sustainable development agenda and link heritage to better livelihoods and quality of life for Jordanians.

Advocacy
PNT works with government, civil society and international organizations to develop and promote policies and practices that prioritize the protection and preservation of heritage. PNT emphasizes the principles of responsible tourism and sustainable development in its approach and integrates heritage into the socioeconomic agenda, legislation and programs.

Preservation
PNT partners with specialists in Jordan and internationally to design and implement urgent interventions to protect and preserve heritage when the safety of monuments and people is under threat.

Education and Awareness
PNT designs and implements an innovative, comprehensive, and structured cultural education program that engages children and youth with their heritage, promotes civic engagement values and builds a new generation of leaders who identify with their heritage and are committed to its protection.

Community Development
PNT works to integrate cultural heritage with better livelihoods and quality of life of members of the local community. PNT programs empower local communities, especially women and youth, to pursue growth and income-generating opportunities related to heritage, and to integrate the interests and knowledge base of different stakeholders into preservation efforts.

Climate Heritage
PNT recognizes that climate change will present a pervasive and serious threats to communities and heritage in Jordan and the world. PNT promotes research, policy and mitigation measures to build the resilience of communities and to adapt to the challenges of climate change by utilizing indigenous knowledge, know-how and traditional social protection mechanisms.
