Summary
In cooperation with ten partners from the Mediterranean region, Petra National Trust undertook a study and survey on water harvesting and water delivery systems.

The study revealed results on how to secure and sustain cities' growth and help protect cities from seasonal flash floods. This project also produced a database of information on key water management practices in ancient times using archaeological, historical, and environmental data and fieldwork.

Summary
PNT was contracted by Camp Dresser and McKee (CDM) to conduct an archaeological survey to implement a water supply system and wastewater treatment plant in the Petra Region. Based upon the resulting recommendations, PNT supervised the construction phase of the Wadi Musa Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment project. In addition, salvage excavations were undertaken throughout the project to document findings in areas where installations of hydraulic components would be placed.

Summary
In collaboration with the Department of Antiquities of Jordan and a team of specialists from the Courtauld Institute of Art (London, UK); Petra National Trust undertook the cleaning, consolidation, and preservation of the unique paintings in triclinium No. 849 in Siq al-Barid, which were in an advanced state of decay.

Summary
In partnership with the Department of Antiquities of Jordan, PetraETRA National Trust executed a project for the excavation and clearance of the Zurraba area.

The excavations revealed a Nabataean workshop, built in the early fourth century A.D. The project also worked to increase local income by employing horse owners and other laborers within the Petra region when tourism to the area came to a halt due to the 1st first Gulf War.

Summary
PNT implemented a project titled’ Communities Empowerment in the Fields of Heritage.’ The project is funded by the Cultural Protection Fund (CPF) and implemented in cooperation with PNT, the International National Trusts Organization (INTO), and Carey Tourism.

Participants from Syria, Egypt, and Jordan received online training focused on the sustainable development and protection of cultural heritage sites, including assessment, safeguards, interpretation, and management. The training also included methods that can form the basis of responsible tourism activities that support local communities and site development and protection plans.

As part of the program, participants were supported to devise proposals for interventions that contribute to the sustainable development and protection of cultural heritage sites to implement as pilot projects aiming at disseminating the acquired knowledge to a broader range of trainees in Syria, Egypt, and Jordan.

Summary
Petra National Trust, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic impact, launched a development 'Digital Empowerment for Local Association in Petra' project that aims to build capacities of local women's associations in the Petra region and to enable them to develop and digitize their business in line with the requirements of the new phase imposed by the pandemic on global business systems. The program was funded by the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas (ALIPH). The project also included the development of an electronic platform specialized in cultural heritage education led by the Petra National Trust.

Thirteen local associations were trained in cooperation with Napoleon Hill Training Corporation on particular experiences in the digital transformation systems of their activities and programs, in addition to electronic marketing for their businesses. The acquired skills enabled them to have multiple sources of income and achieve a wider spread of their activities to alleviate the economic effect resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic impact. Moreover, the project provided the associations with laptops to enable them to practice what they learned.

The associations were trained to develop product designs and 2020 designs related to handicrafts by trainer Hanin Asfour.

Her Royal Highness Princess Dana Firas - President of Petra National Trust and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Heritage – said in the press release: "We seek to emphasize the importance of the cultural and heritage sector to enable communities to cope with crises and then recuperate and recover. In partnership with ALIPH Foundation, we provide support to productive local communities to enable them to keep pace with the changes resulting from the current pandemic so that they can carry out their work and production for the benefit of the people and heritage preservation".

As a part of the project, participants also engaged in an online training focused on Food Hygiene, Covid19 preventive measures in cultural heritage sites, and cultural tourism-related activities.

The session, led by Dr Umayma Al Majdoub, focused on the following:

o Physical distancing in tourism related activities

Summary
Petra National Trust partnered with Tryon Fine Arts Center, United States, to implement a series of workshops that engage with underserved communities and children and young people to build partnerships between communities.

The initiative aims to offer a space for children, young people, and adults to experience community through the joy of participating in traditional music together; in our case Petra and the Appalachian cultural music.

The U.S. Department of State sponsors communities Connecting Heritage with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by World Learning and Wings of Hope Society as our local sponsor.

Target audience: Jordanian and US children ages (11-18)

Summary
As part of PNT’s expansion plan to increase the reach and impact of (EOA) programs, we joined forces with World Monuments Fund Britain (WMF) to implement the “Syrian Stonemasonry Training Pilot Project.” Through the Cultural Protection Fund (CPF), the British Council funded the project. The project aims to raise awareness of cultural heritage while training Jordanians and Syrian participants in stonemasonry. These graduates can now engage in the local stone trade, work in the construction industry, participate in heritage preservation in Jordan, and play an essential role in rebuilding Syria when the time comes.
