Educational Programs Impact
Body
An Impact assessment of Petra National Trust’s Education, Outreach and Awareness programs was commissioned by EUNIC Jordan on behalf of the European Union in April 2017:

“The evaluation findings indicate that the 6-year program with its 5 components engaged and generated interest of 27.90% of the total number of students on the Petra governorate level which is estimated to be 8000, as per the Ministry of Education statistics. As such, the program is the largest program initiated by a CSO at the Governorate level and the most sustainable.

The findings also indicate that the project has had a transformative impact on the attitude of its children and youth beneficiaries….

Accordingly, all project partners on national and community levels, as well as donors agree that the program methodology and content are unique to Jordan and possibly the region....”

Rakan and Bashar Al-Zawaydah
Body
Two brothers from a local family based in a small village in the far south of Jordan called Dlagha. This small village is one of the six communities around Petra but has benefited the least from the economic values of the archaeological site.

The two brothers joined Petra National Trust programs in 2015 through its Junior Ranger workshop. It was their first experience of Nabataean clay and pottery. The Petra National Trust team noted their excellence and adapted the training course to develop Rakan’s and Bashar’s talent.

This piece represents the first step in their journey; Rakan and Bashar are becoming well-known talented sculptors.
